"The Untold Legacy of the Garhwal King: A Historical Exploration"

After Swargadeo Swarganarayana, his son Chuklenmu Kovar became king. He is also known as the 'King of Garhwal' He was the founder of the famous capital of the Ahom kings, Garhwal. In the days of this king, the famous hero Chilara, the commander of the army of the Koch king, invaded the Ahom kingdom. He conquered the Ahom kingdom as far as the Dikrai River on the north bank. The Koch king immediately built a large road from his capital Kochbihar to Narayanpur in Saumar. The street is known as “Gohai-Kamala- street”. for,it was built by Gohaikamala, brother of King Naranarayan. The Ahom king, however, with many fierce warriors, built a fort on the banks of the Pisla river and overtook the Koch commander. There was a fierce battle between Chilarai and the king of Garhwal. In the battle, Chilarai returned to his homeland. The Ahom kings recovered their kingdom. This was the first invasion of the Kochas into the Ahom kingdom. This is called the “backward battle”.

Suklenmung consolidated the kingdom's command over the regions captured from the Kachari kingdom, by moving the Baro-Bhuyan in the Kopili River valley closer to the capital. In 1546, the kingdom was invaded by the Koch commander, Chilarai, who advanced along a road constructed in secret by his half-brother, Gohain Kamal (and thus called Gohain Kamal Ali), along the north bank of the Brahmaputra River to establish a camp at Narayanpur in present-day North Lakhimpur district. Suklenmung was able to remove the Koch army from the northbank.
